Province of Bolzano. Mount Ortler

The camera is installed directly on the border between Italy and Switzerland. As we are looking toward the top of the Italian Ortler, we assume that we are in the “country of the calves.”

On the screen, we can see Alto Adige, the highest point in the region of Trentino. The peak on the right has a height of 3905 meters above sea level. Nowadays, climbing Ortler has become common, but the climb held at the beginning of the nineteenth century was a real madness. Conquest of this height is considered one of the most important tasks for climbers in the Eastern Alps.

We are looking at Ortler from the top of Piz Chavalatsch, where is located on the border between the Swiss canton of Graubünden and the Italian province of Bolzano. Piz Chavalatsch is 1150 meters lower than Ortler, so you can often meet amateurs here.
