Udine. Lionello Square

At the foothills of Alps, right near the Slovenian border lies the beautiful Italian city of Udine. It is the historical capital of Friuli and has a long and interesting history. Once a part of the Western Roman Empire, than ruled by the Republic of Venice, Udine was occupied by Austria durind the First World War and became part of Italy only after that.

This webcam captures view over Piazzetta del Lionello. Beautiful 15-th century building with round arches to the left is Loggia del Lionello, serving today as the city town hall.

By the way, Piazzetta del Lionello is called after the famous local goldsmith Nicolo Lionello. He designed Loggia del Lionello, the major tourist attraction located in the principal city square of Udine.
