Riga. Central Market

This webcam shows Riga Central Market, Europe’s largest market and bazaar. The main five pavilions of the market were constructed by reusing old German Zeppelin hangars. Riga Central Market was first opened in 1930 and, at that time, became the largest and the most progressive marketplace in the world. As well as one of the major attractions and most prominent landmarks of present-day Riga.

In 1998, it has been included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list as an example of very notable historical structure. By the way, Old Riga was added the same year.

From this viewing point, we can also observe the beautiful Saint Peter’s Church, located behind the Central Market. This church is a symbol of the Latvian capital and one of its oldest architectural structures (first written mentioning is from beginning of the 13th century). Today Saint Peter’s Church is a parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. Additionally, it is used as a venue for Christian music concerts and Christian art exhibitions.
