Klaipėda. Port of Klaipeda
This webcam is located on the facade of the Amberton Klaipeda Hotel, which stands parallel to Naujojo Sodo gatvė Street and directly overlooks the modern port of Klaipeda. This port, being one of the largest ice-free ports in Northern Europe, was opened in the beginning of the 90-s and is a result of merge of several smaller local ports. Actually, its history started much earlier, in the 13th century, when Klaipeda became a significant port of the famous Amber Road.
Today, the port of Klaipeda handles about 30 million tons of cargo each year, with total length of its terminal port comprising about 25 kilometres. Port of Klaipeda is the largest port of Lithuania and one of the few ice-free ports in northernmost Europe.
European Commission has even added it to the list of 319 key European seaports which are “essential for the efficient functioning of the internal market and the European economy”. Do not forget to take a look at this place when visiting beautiful Klaipeda.
