Gilgil. The Aberder Ridge

The city of Gilgil, on the eponymous river that falls into Kenyan Lake Naivasha, is located on the border of Nakuru and Nayandarua Counties. The camera is installed in the western outskirts of the city and is directed toward Aberder National Park, named after the mountain range. We can see part of this range.

Aberder was discovered by the Scottish traveler, Thomson, in the late nineteenth century during his trip to the famous Mount Kilimanjaro. The ridge was named by its discoverer after the chairman of the Royal Geographical Society.

You can meet tourists not only in the mountains of Kenya. In Gilgil are several hotels for guests who come here to visit Lake Elementaita. Yet, most of Gilgil’s population is engaged in the military industry, as the major employer here is the Kenyan Ministry of Defense, the barracks of which are located around the city.
