Fügen. Mount Onkeljoch
For many years, the Austrian resort of Fügen has coped with a large flow of tourists, thanks to the main lift, Spieljochbahn. Since 1973, it has transported up to 1,500 tourists per hour. At that time, a cabin funicular was considered good enough, despite the small four-person capacity of the cabins.
More than 40 years have passed, and instead of the old cable car, which carried vacationers 1,224 meters up the mountain, a new lift appeared with the old name. Since the 2017-2018 season, modern eight-seat cabins, with panoramic glazing, have operated in the resort. Additionally, other infrastructure has appeared in Fügen, such as a five-kilometer toboggan run, new restaurants and cafes, a snowpark for extreme sports, an artificial snow system, and much more.
The camera installed on Spieljoch shows us Onkeljoch Sesselbahn, a ski lift built on top of Onkeljoch. You can only get there, a height of more than two kilometers above sea level, by changing lifts.
There is another ambitious project connected with the ski resort of Fügen, thanks to which the peak of Onkeljoch will be linked to the neighboring resort of Kaltenbach. The new cableway is called From Peak to Peak.
