Waitsfield. Big Eddie Bridge

Big Eddy Covered Bridge (aka Waitsfield Covered Bridge) in Vermont is perhaps the only attraction in the village of Waitsfield. Built in 1833, it connected the banks of the River Med. In 1974, the Greater Eddy Bridge, the oldest in all Vermont, was added to the National Register of Historic Places of the USA.

The bridge is located in the eastern part of Waitsfield, its length is 32 meters. The original arched structure was reinforced with additional longitudinal beams. As you can see, the wooden structure of the bridge is protected by a metal roof under which local residents can take shelter in the rain.

Repair and restoration work was carried out four times, in 1973, 1989, 1992, and 2001. This is due to the fact that the bridge is still actively exploited. Until recently, children were entertained on the bridge, they jumped into the water and made a swing over the river. But due to several accidents, these games were banned at the legislative level.

In addition to the bridge and the river below it, we can see the houses of Waitsfield, as well as the picturesque slopes of Hemlock Hill.
