Tarvisio. Santuario del Monte Lussari

The resort area of Santuario del Monte Lussari, which we see on the screen, is above the Italian community of Tarvisio, in the Julian Alps. Here, at an altitude of 1,790 meters, we can see not only the ski slopes but an ancient monastery of the 16th century, built on top of the mountain.

A chapel was built here before the monastery. Unfortunately, the construction of the 14th century did not survive to this day. However, it is still remembered all over Italy because, according to the legend, the statue of the Madonna and the Child was found here. Santuario del Monte Lussari is known as the “Church of Three Nations”, as it is a place of pilgrimage for inhabitants of Italy and neighboring Austria and Slovenia.

In the summer, hiking routes are popular here, the most famous of which leads to the Hunter’s Top at an altitude of 2,071 meters above sea level.
