This webcam is located in the very heart of the beautiful city of Riga. More specifically, in its Old Town, on a street called Kalku iela. Our webcam faces the Freedom Monument, a 42-metres high structure with 13 groups of figures below and one, the statue of Liberty, on the top. They are describing Latvian culture and history, while Liberty-girl is holding three stars over her head.
After the Soviet occupation of Latvia, it was planned to demolish the Freedom Monument. Thanks to efforts of the famous architects and academics, this monument remained untouched. Today, we can enjoy its look right from our homes.
