Helsinki. The Western Port

This webcam is located at the entrance to the Western Port of Helsinki. From time to time, it shows also the Gulf of Finland and ships going in the direction of the capital city. Nowadays, this port is mostly used by passenger ferries and cruise liners. To the right we can observe the passenger marine terminal and the island of Pihlajasaari (in the background).

Today, the Western Port of Helsinki is used mainly by passenger ships from Helsinki to Tallinn and from Helsinki to Saint Petersburg. The new port of Vuosaari, which was opened in 2008, helped to reduce a lot the cargo traffic in the Western Port. This processes released a lot of land for commercial and residential redevelopment, and it is even planned that the passenger terminal of the Western Port will become largest in the country.

When this webcam turns, it captures the new quay of Länsisatama T2. Nearby the passenger terminal stands a modern shopping center with an observation platform on the roof. One of the most popular attractions of the area, the old Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, is also located here.
