Mactan Island. The Coast
This webcam is located on the small island of Maktan, that lies a few kilometres from Cebu Island in the Philippines. The Maktan-Cebu International Airport occupies a considerable part of its territory.
This small island has a very important role in the history of marine explorers. Famous Ferdinand Magellan arrived on the Maktan island in 1521 and later was killed by the warriors of Datu Lapu-Lapu. Strange, but fact that on the central square of the town of Cebu you will see monuments of Magellan and Lapu-Lapu standing side by side.
The island of Maktan is a popular diving destination in the Philippines. This webcam captures the eastern coast of the island that faces the beautiful Hilutungan Channel. About 15 great 40-metres depth diving spots are located here.
This webcam has perfect visibility that comes up to 30 metres in sunny weather. It is easy to discern in the distance the coral reefs and some of their colorful inhabitants, maybe even a shark.
