Santa Maria Island. Praia Formosa

Our webcam is located on the beautiful island of Santa Maria, one of the Azores islands. This was the first island of the archipelago discovered by the Europeans in the first half of the 15th century. Vila do Porto, the oldest town of the Azores, is also situated here.

Second name of this island, often used by tourists and residents, is “The Island of Sun”. Santa Maria is the southernmost island in the Azores with prevalence of sunny weather and warmer climate. It seems that even soils and vegetation covering this island are more yellow than other places.

Among main tourist attractions of the island, we can mention Maia Lighthouse and numerous water- and windmills.

By the way, Santa Maria has its own airport, Santa Maria Airport, located close to Vila do Porto. The island has ferry connection with nearby Sao Miguel.
