Campanet. Vulture Conservation Foundation
The Black Vulture Conservation Foundation (BVCF), in Mallorca, was founded in 1986. It is based in the Netherlands but supports the population of this bird throughout Europe, in particular, off the coast of the Mediterranean and in the Balkans. The first project of the fund was associated with Mallorca, where the only island population of black vultures was located at that time.
We are in the northeastern part of the island, in the municipality of Campanet. Here, the foundation staff is trying to maintain an ecosystem that is comfortable for vultures, and they also create special zones in forests where the bird can eat carrion. The webcam often shows the corpses of animals over which vultures circle.
In order to draw public attention to the problem of the conservation of a rare bird species in the Balearic Islands, BVCF organizes special group tours for adults and children. “Open days” are organized regularly, so that during their holidays, tourists can easily get acquainted with a piece of wildlife in Mallorca.
Every Monday and Friday the entry is free, as well as on the first Saturday of the month. Visiting time from May 1 to 31 is 10:00 to 14:00; from June 1 to August 31 — 9:00 to 13:00.
