Hermigua. Coast of the Resort

We are leaving for the northeast of the island La Gomera, located in the archipelago of the Canary Islands. There are several resort towns, one of which is on your screen. Due to its relief, with a large difference in altitude, Hermigua has magnificent landscapes. Our camera is installed on a high rock, in the western part of the resort.

On the screen, we can see several houses at the foot of the cliff, the beach of Santa Catalina and the cape of Punta Gabinja. From the central part of La Gomera, Hermigua is surrounded by Garajonay National Park and the Majona Nature Park.

There are about 2,000 inhabitants in Hermigua, but taking into account the tourists who come to this part of the island, almost all year round, this number can be multiplied by two. It is interesting that at the end of the 17th century the local population was not much smaller, when 930 people lived in 188 houses.

In addition to the tourism business, Hermigua has a developed agricultural industry, mostly based on banana plantations and winemaking. Among the architectural sights is the monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzman, built in 1598.
