Palma. Es Portixol

On the coast of Mallorca, we very rarely can find a wide highway. Autopista de Llevant connects the center of the island’s main city with the airport of Palma de Mallorca. In other localities, you can hardly see such wide roads, as busy traffic is unusual for Mallorca.

Just behind the motorway is Es Portixol, where many private boats and yachts moor. Around the port are restaurants and cafes, as well as hotels with excellent views of the Bay of Badia de Palma. Es Portixol originated on the site of a former fishing village, so the navigation has been developing here for a long time.

The architecture of old and new buildings combines here. To the east of the port, you can stroll through the narrow streets between historic buildings, and in the west, you can find the high-rise apartment building Marina Plaza (on the right).

Nàutic Portitxol, a yacht club based in the port, was opened at the beginning of the last century. The peak of its development occurred between 1970 and 1980, when new berths were being built and a lot of amateurs of navigation joined the club.
