Portocolom. The Bay
Compared to other coastal resorts of Mallorca, Portocolom has the largest natural harbor, which is formed by Punta de Ses Crestes and Punta de s’Homonet. The camera on the shore of the bay is set in the restaurant Sa Llotja and shows several piers in the bay of s’Arenal.
Unlike many other resorts in Mallorca, the port of Portocolom still plays an important role in the fishing industry, and there are many berths for private boats and yachts.
On the opposite side of the bay, you can see the forest of Punta de s’Homonet. Closer to the end of the cape, the residential development begins again, so the forest acts as a buffer zone between the two parts of Portocolom.
The old town of Portocolom is one of the best representatives of medieval architecture in Mallorca, so every year thousands of tourists come to the beautiful town, increasing the number of residents, which is 5,000 people.
The locals consider Portocolom to be the birthplace of the famous seafarer, Christopher Columbus. His name is even reflected in the name of the village. The official birthplace of the traveler is Genoa.
