Bremen. Osprey Nest
Audubon Bird Camp is located on the vast territory of Maine, in the vicinity of Bremen. The camera on the island of Hog shows us the nest of ospreys, Rachel and Steve. They built their nest next to a small boat station, in the northern part of the island.
Birds fly to their nest after wintering and, over several weeks, undertake hundreds of attempts at pairing. As a result, two to three eggs are laid, which the female incubates for about 40 days.
Chicks begin to fledge in 50 days, and until that time, they are in a nest and are fed exclusively with fish. The following winter, a young osprey flies to South America. Their way lies across the Atlantic coast and the Caribbean.
Hog Island Audubon Camp, an ornithological camp, celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2016. They know well how to properly preserve bird population and to acquaint tourists with the wonderful world of wildlife. Plan your trip to the island on the camp’s website.
