New York City. View of Broadway Bridge
Broadway Bridge is one of the many New York bridges across the Harlem River. We are looking at it from the Kindgsbridge Terrace Street. Just behind the bridge is Henry Hudson Bridge, where the Harlem flows into the Hudson River.
The Broadway Bridge was built in 1962. There used to be several crossings at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Forty-meter-high vessels can go under this bridge at its upper position. When the bridge is in its lower position, the gap between the water and the bridge is about 8 meters.
According to a 2010 survey of the Department of Transportation of New York, the average daily traffic through the bridge, in both directions, is 37,292 vehicles. Several routes of public transport, as well as the first branch of the subway, which has a “tomato-red” color, pass through it.
To the left of the bridge, we can see New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Athletic Complex of Columbia University in Baker. The sports complex consists of several grounds for American football, soccer and baseball. There is also a separate building for tennis courts. In winter, the roof is inflated over the football stadium, thus you can go in for sports any time of the year.
