South Padre Island. The Coast

This is a unique American resort on Padre Island. We are looking at the waterfront of the city of South Padre Island, located in the southern part of the 200-kilometer-long island.

Since the width of the island in this part is not more than a kilometer, you can choose any option of accommodation because the shores of the ocean can be reached in a matter of minutes. The coastal zone has a wide sandy beach and grassy hills along the ocean. There are some popular hotels like The Pearl South Padre, and Peninsula Island Resort & Spa.

Queen Isabella Causeway connects the resort with the mainland. Two serious accidents have happened on this bridge. First, a small plane crashed into it (in the summer of 1996), and then (in 2001), there was a collision with cargo barges. Due to the fact that the destruction of the bridge coincided with the sad events of September 11th, the tragedy wasn’t covered by the leading media.
