Washington County. Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge

The national reserve of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, covering an area of 116 square kilometers, is an important United States nature reserve. Many species of birds nest there, including waterfowl, raptors, songbirds, and wading birds.

Local inhabitants live in a comfortable and natural environment. The process of deforestation is very carefully controlled here, and all funds raised from the sale of timber return to the reserve management, and the money is spent on planting new forests, for example.

It’s forbidden for tourists to go there, due to the real threat of meeting a wild animal, which is why this part of Maine is considered to be really wild and pristine.
