Washington, D.C.. The United States Capitol
The United States Capitol is one of the most visited places in United States. The Capitol is located on the Capitol Hill, in the very heart of the city of Washington, and being 88 metres high thus becomes the highest construction in the whole city.
Since the year 1800 here has been the seat of the United States Congress and the Senate. The dome of the Capitol has been reconstructed several times and in 1863 a huge statue called “Freedom” was raised at the top of it. Everyone has right to visit the Capitol after preliminary registration. By the way, this guided tour is free of charge.
The list of attractions located in the surroundings of the Capitol Hill is great. Among them are the Senate, the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress.
Union Station is a major train station and transportation hub of Washington and together with the Central Railway Station is situated nearby. The railway station, the one with colons on the facade, is in the focus of our webcam. In front of the building lies the Columbus Circle (also known as Union Station Plaza or Columbus Plaza). It is a busy traffic circle of the city. In the center of it stands a monument to Christopher Columbus, the beautiful Columbus Fountain.
