Maishofen. View of the Village from Mount Sausteigen

This is a magnificent view of Maishofen village from Pinzgauer. This is a small Austrian village formed in the fourteenth century. Despite this, large numbers of families moved here only in the nineteenth century, when the first school was opened. Although the population of the village of Maishofen has increased by three times over the past 150 years (from 1000 to 3000), it is still a quiet and peaceful place.

The main attraction of the village is Saalhof Castle. This building of the seventeenth century changed its hosts several times and became heavily worn by the beginning of the new millennium. After major repairs in 2004-2006, several guest rooms were opened in the castle, so anyone can stay here for a couple of days and feel like a full-fledged inhabitant of a medieval castle.

You can see part of Lake Zell am See, which has a peanut shape. Around the lake are many hotels, and the resort of Zell am See is as good as the ski resorts located in this Salzburg district.
