St. Anton am Arlberg. Galzigbahn
Galzigbahn is a cableway with an incredibly long history and is built right in the center of the resort of St. Anton am Arlberg. The first lift with this name appeared here before the war, in 1937. At that time, its cabins, accommodating up to 30 people, were a real miracle of engineering. It was the first such construction in Arlberg.
As it is today, in the middle of the last century, the cabins of this funicular traveled a 2.5-kilometer path . The modern version of Galzigbahn carries 10 times more passengers per hour, while the new cabins can accommodate only 24 people. It should be noted that there was one more version of Galzigbahn, with 70 cabins, which operated from 1964 to 2006.
As you may have guessed, the lower lift station, which this camera shows, was built in 2006. It, like the 1964version, goes up to the mark of 2,086 meters above sea level, whereas the first version of Galzigbahn took tourists 100 meters higher.
With 28 panoramic cabins, the new lift is not only a fast climb to the ski slopes, but a great opportunity to enjoy the alpine scenery.
