Victoria. Johnson Street Bridge
Johnson Street Drawbridge, which you can see, was built in 1924 in the Canadian city of Victoria. It connects the districts of Victoria West and Downtown. Originally, the bridge had a wooden deck, which was replaced by a steel structure in 1966. Thirteen years later, as part of an extensive renovation, the bridge got its present appearance and recognizable blue color.
The bridge is used by cyclists, pedestrians and, of course, cars. During the afternoon peak hours, it is passed about 30 thousand times. They are building a new bridge, which is to take over all the functions of Johnson Street Bridge, as well as improve the urban landscape.
The old bridge will be open until the end of construction of the new bridge, which is scheduled for 2017.
Tourists are very fond of Johnson Street Bridge and often take photographs, with the bridge in the background, home from Victoria. So, in front of you is a postcard view. Be sure to watch the bridge drawing.
