Balderschwang. Hotel Kienles Adlerkönig
We are going to the border of Austria and Germany, to the German community of Balderschwang. From the roof of Hotel Kienles Adlerkönigma, we are looking at the ski runs of the resort, laid along the slopes of Mount Gelbhansekopf. An adult day ski pass, to all Balderschwang lifts, costs only 31 euros, but it should be noted that the trails here are much simpler than on the other mountains of Oberstdorf.
Balderschwang consists of several small areas with a total population of 300-350 people. But throughout the year, you can meet many more people here because tourists come not only to ski and snowboard, but also to get acquainted with the amazing nature of the Bavarian Alps.
The name of the community goes back to the local peasant, Balder, who lived in the valley during the 14th century. However, the current community was not populated until the late 17th century. Before it became another tourist center of Oberallgäu, Balderschwang had been famous for producing cheese.
Today, this small community is visited annually by about 200,000 travelers from all over the world.
