Garmisch-Partenkirchen District. The Top of the Zugspitze

As you can see, it is difficult to give an exact height of Mount Zugspitze because it is built up by huge cable car stations. Tourists can rise to the top of the highest mountain in Germany both from German Eibsee and from Austria, by the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn. Due to the great popularity of Zugspitze with tourists, construction equipment is constantly here and after finishing one of the projects, it moves to another building site.

This camera is aimed at the Gipfelkreuz cross (it glitters in the sun in the center of the image during daylight hours), as well as at the cable car station, Gletscherbahn, which connects the top of the mountain to the main ski area of the Zugspitze. Naturally, at such a height (the highest point of the Zugspitze is at around 2962 meters above sea level), only fully closed cabins rise from here.

The cableway was put into operation in 1992. In addition to entertainment features, the top of the mountain has scientific significance, such as an observatory radio tower and the most advanced meteorological equipment.
