Ehrwald. Tiroler Zugspitzbahn Station

Zugspitze has become a meeting point for tourists from two neighboring states. As early as 1926, the first lift, Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, was built here. Then, it reached an altitude of 2,805 meters, and its cabins accommodated up to 19 people. The journey to the high mountain took about 20 minutes. At that time, the cableway was a real engineering miracle.

But in only 75 years, the Austrians managed to reach the very summit. The updated funicular, Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, got to a height of almost 3 kilometers above sea level in 7 minutes. The new cabins of the cableway accommodated 5 times more passengers. Another reconstruction of the ropeway ended on August 14, 2003 and was associated with a major fire that occurred earlier that year.

We are looking at the German-Austrian border, from the top station of the ski lift. Due to the high popularity of Zugspitze, several cableways are built on it, spreading over all the slopes of the mountain. To the south, for example, in addition to the observation deck, tourists can find more ski trails.

It is worth noting that the lower lift station is not in Ehrwald itself, but in the mountainous region of Obermoos.
