Kochel am See. Lake Walchensee
On the way from Munich to Innsbruck, behind the high alpine mountains, you can find two beautiful lakes, Walchensee and Kochelsee. The camera on Mount Herzogstand is aimed at the southern lake in Kochel am See. Walchensee is one of the largest alpine lakes in Germany, with an area of about 16.5 square kilometers and a depth of 190 meters.
At the beginning of the last century, they decided to make use of the difference between the heights of the two lakes and built a hydroelectric power station, Walchenseekraftwerk.
In the warmer months, Walchensee attracts windsurfers. Riding on the board here is a pleasure because of strong cold winds and beautiful scenery.
At the bottom of the lake are some drowned planes, which were shot down during the Second World War. Divers also take pictures of sunken Volkswagen Beetles and Fords.
In the left part of the image, you can see the large peninsula, Zwergern, covered with dense forest. There are several hotels, as well as a large campsite for tourists with tents or motorhomes. Most accommodation options, located on the shores of the lake, are on the northern and western sides of Walchensee.
