Only some 8,000 inhabitants make up this town. Meßkirch became a town in the days when a settlement of 50,000 inhabitants could be called a metropolis. There are as many as 10 districts, and everything is serious.

Meßkirch, like any 500-year old town, has a rich history, as well as culture and architecture. In particular, there is a spectacular carnival, called Maslenitsa, preceding the beginning of Lent.

As for architectural sites, you should definitely see the local castle and the parish church of St. Martin. You do not expect to see such buildings in small towns, but then you get used to it, after all, it is Europe.
