Arona. Town Center

Arona is one of the many medieval towns built on the shores of Lago Maggiore. From the Rocca Borromeo Park, located above the old town, you can enjoy stunning views of Arona, the lake, and the opposite shore.

The camera shows the main architectural monuments of the coastal town. The tower of the monastery church of St. Mary is clearly distinguished among monophonic roofs. The temple in the center of Arona appeared in 1488. The first large-scale reconstruction took place in the 17th century and was started by Cardinal Federico Borromeo. In the course of this reconstruction, the external elements of the church were updated and supplemented, as well as its interior decoration. The Church of St. Mary is made in the Gothic Byzantine style and to this day, has preserved several original elements, the age of which exceeds 500 years.

As in any Italian city, the Church of St. Mary is not the only religious institution. Lovers of architecture can see at least 15 churches and sanctuaries here, and with neighboring villages, their number can double.

In the center of the city, tourists can visit not only the ancient church but also San Graziano Square, as well as museums of archeology and mineralogy located there.
