Assisi. Piazza del Comune
The camera in the center of Italian Assisi is set in Piazza del Comune. The square and buildings around it are considered to be the most significant structures of the medieval Umbria. The modern square is located at the place where the Roman Forum was located in ancient times.
In the lower part of the picture, you can see crowds of people whose attention is attracted by the fountain of Three Lions, built on the square in the 16th century. A lot of the town streets converge on the square, which is not accidental, because in the Middle Ages, popular assemblies, in which the majority of local residents took part, were held there.
On the right, we can see the high columns of the temple of Minerva. According to some sources, it was built in 30 BC, and in the 16th century, it was transformed into the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva.
If you like the square, you can stay in one of the hotels that are situated right in Piazza del Comune. Rooms in hotels like Hotel Umbra or Hotel Alexander cost around 90 euros.
