Macugnaga. Zamboni-Zappa Mountain Hut

Zamboni-Zappa is built on the edge of the Belvedere Glacier, at an altitude of 2,070 meters above sea level. It should be noted that this is not a record height on the slopes of the Monte Rosa mountain range. On the way to the homonymous peak of the massif, there is another shelter, Bivacco Marinelli, it is built 1,000 meters higher than the Zamboni-Zappa.

The mountain hut, from which we are looking at the snow-covered Alpine mountains, was built in 1925. At first, the shelter was a small building, where the conquerors of the mountain peaks could rest during their exciting adventure. Later, with the increase in the tourist flow, the shelter was enlarged and renamed. Since 1954, it has had the name of Rodolfo Zamboni and Mario Zappa.

Today, the shelter can accommodate up to 74 guests. Four to six tourists stay in small rooms. Even the most courageous travelers begin their journey to conquer the peaks from the Macugnaga cableway. The first section of the way to Monte Rosa, which you need to walk, connects the upper station of the funicular and the Zamboni-Zappa shelter.
