Rome. Obelisco della Minerva

Albergo Santa Chiara camera faces Minerva Square, in Rome. In the left part of the image, the main object of the square, Obelisco della Minerva, is clearly visible.

The obelisk appeared in the center of the square in 1667. The author was Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, who created an elephant with a high obelisk on his back. Earlier, this obelisk was in the temple of Isis. Interestingly, the locals call the obelisk “il pulcin della Minerva” because the small and round elephant is very similar to a pig.

In the square, there are other buildings of no less importance: Palazzo Fonseca of the 18th century, the palace of the spiritual academy of the 16th century, known as the Palazzo Severoli, and the former Dominican monastery, also built in the 16th century.

If you liked the view from the Albergo Santa Chiara, then be prepared to give a tidy amount for staying in it. Despite the modest three stars, this hotel doesn’t have cheap accommodation options. This pricing policy is connected with the successful location of the hotel near the famous Roman landmarks.
