The cableway station, Citta dei Sassi, is built right at the foot of the giant Langkofel cliff. This sharp mountain knife has a height of 3,128 meters above sea level. Its name can be translated as a “long peak.” Unfortunately, though the panoramic camera can turn toward the rock, it does not convey all its greatness.

Together with the neighboring peak of Plattkofel, Langkofel forms the so-called Stone Town. Hence, the name for the cableway — Citta dei Sassi. Only professional mountaineers can conquer the impregnable walls of the rock, but even they mostly come to the ski lift station of the ski resort, Piz Sella, first.

Mount Langkofel itself can be considered a full-value attraction in the province of Bolzano. But, there is also a man-made monument here. In the 50s of the last century, a three-meter wooden sculpture of the Madonna was built into a natural niche on the eastern side of the rock.
