Turin. Mole Antonelliana

In front of us is the spire of the first skyscraper in Italy. Mole Antonelliana was built in the nineteenth century and designed by Antonelli. Like a true artist, he repeatedly revised the project and the originally voiced value increased by several times during construction. Despite the increase in the budget, Antonelli kept bringing the new changes and, from the original sixty-six meters, Mole Antonelliana eventually grew to a record at that time, 167.5 meters.

The initial financial support of the Jewish community stopped after the increase in the cost, so the plan to place a synagogue in the building was abandoned and Mole Antonelliana became municipal property. Since the beginning of the last century, a variety of museums and exhibitions have been in the building. Nowadays, the National Museum of Cinema is located there.

The forty-seven meter spire, which you see on the screen, was demolished by a tornado in 1953, but within ten years, the building had gained back its usual appearance.
