Turin. Superga
Turin is practically surrounded by mountains on all sides. One of them is the Catholic Basilica of Superga, which you see on the screen. This famous Italian landmark is located in the eastern part of the city on top of the hill of the same name.
The basilica was built in honor of the successful battle with the French-Spanish invaders. King Victor Amadeus II and Eugene of Savoy watched the siege of the city from the hill, later on which the construction of the basilica began in 1717. All the kings of Piedmont, starting with the founder, King Vittorio Amedeo, are buried there.
One of the major tragedies for the whole of Italy (the attitude of the inhabitants of this country to calcio is well known) is connected with the basilica. In 1949, the local team was killed in a plane crash, the pilot of the aircraft lost orientation in the air, due to heavy fog, and the plane wing got caught in the fence of Superga.
