Veneto. The Dolomites

The Dolomites are a mountain range situated in northeastern part of Italy. This is a very popular winter sports destination with perfect snow and weather conditions during the whole year and charming mountain scenery. In 2009 UNESCO added the Dolomites to the World Heritage List.

The Mountain Marmolada is the highest point of the Dolomites. Marmolada features the only glacier in the area, it is located on its northern side. The mountain lies about 100 kilometres from Venice and can be easily reached from the city.

About 50 ski resorts are located in this area. Many of them have well-developed infrastructure, 12 have been merged into a single Dolomiti super-ski complex. This complex provides 1200 kilometres of ski runs, 500 lifts, hotels and other recreational opportunities. This is a very popular destination among enthusiasts of skiing, snowboarding, mountain climbing, hiking and cycling.
