Venice. Campanile di San Marco (St Mark's Campanile)

The camera is installed near the triangular area, where the famous Venetian Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal join. We are looking toward the Piazza San Marco, on the left. The main object on which the cam is focused is Campanile di San Marco.

The free-standing bell tower at the Cathedral of St. Mark has a height of almost 100 meters and is one of the main symbols of the city. The first tower in this part of the island dates back to the ninth century. It was a watch tower and, at the same time, a lighthouse. The first version of the modern bell tower was built in 1514.

The tower is a solid brick mine which once was used as a torture cell. There are five bells and an observation deck under the roof. Each bell had its purpose. The biggest of them (the Marangona) rang to mark the beginning and ending of the working day.

Unfortunately, the original Campanile collapsed in 1902 as a result of an earthquake, but within 10 years the exact copy was built in its place, and it has pleased tourists and locals with its looks to this day.
