This webcam shows us the Vanšu Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge located in beautiful Riga, the capital city of Latvia. This is one of the widest existing cable-stayed bridges in the world. Construction works ended in 1981 and today it is one of five bridges crossing the Daugava River.
Vanšu Bridge is opened for cars, pedestrians and bicycles. Our webcam is placed on the roof of the Hotel Islande Riga. On the other side of the road stands the famous Saules Akmens skyscraper (something what can be translated as “The Sun Stone”). It matches Vanšu Bridge in appearance and represents an essential part of hardscape of this district.
In the lower left part of the picture, we can see the Daugava River and the public beach “Ķīpsala”. This beach has been created artificially to meet recreational needs of the city guests and its residents.
