Egmont National Park. Taranaki Volcano

In 1900, Egmont National Park, with an area of 35 square kilometers, was opened on the North Island of New Zealand. Volcano Taranaki is the main treasure of the park, although there are still traces of two other volcanoes, Kaitake and Pukeiti.

Taranaki, or Egmont as Cook called it, is a relatively young frozen stratovolcano. It erupted the first time about 135,000 years ago and the last eruption happened in 1854. The volcano is also a movie star, as it performed Fujiyama in The Last Samurai movie.
