Ruapehu District. Ruapehu Volcano. Southern Part

The volcano of Ruapehu in New Zealand has been a fear of the neighborhood for 250,000 years. The last time his awakening scared the country was in November 2012. As a result, the color of the volcanic lake changed from green to yellow.

The lake in the crater feeds on melting snow. During the eruption, the water in the lake can be completely displaced. Or, the yielding tephra raises the water above the normal level, and the deterring dam can be broken through. As a result, splashing water can cause destroying lahars. In 2000, the ERLAWS system was installed on the mountain to detect such a breakthrough and to alert Emergency Services.
