Ruapehu District. Ruapehu Volcano. Northern Part
Ruapehu is an active volcano in New Zealand. It can threaten and destroy and still bring pleasure and joy to men.
Mount Ruapehu has two commercial ski resorts, Whakapapa on the north side (the webcam shows it) and Turoa on the southern slope. These are the two largest resorts in New Zealand. Turoa has the longest vertical descent in the whole of Australia and Oceania and the highest lift in the country, Highnoon Express. Whakapapa, which includes 65 trails (24 of which are black) located on an area of 1,050 hectares, is the largest ski area in New Zealand.
The ski season lasts from June to October (remember that the winter here almost exactly coincides with the northern summer) but depends on the availability of snow and general weather conditions.
