Cologne. Cologne Cathedral and the Rhine
This webcam is located in the beautiful city of Cologne, Germany’s fourth-largest city. It features a stunning panoramic view over the wonderful Cologne Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. This cathedral is, of course, a World Heritage Site. In addition to being Germany’s most visited landmark.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1248, but it remained unfinished until the year 1880.
Cologne Cathedral is 157 metres high. Pure Gothic style, wonderful stained-glass windows, the sound of two pipe organs and the beautiful high altar made of black marble, use to awe people in silent astonishment. The most valuable part of the interior is the Shrine of the Three Kings.
Near the cathedral lies the splendid Rhine and the Hohenzollern Bridge, which is the most used railway bridge in Germany.
There is no doubt that Cologne has many other places of interest. The most popular and visited of them are the famous twelve Romanesque churches of Cologne (all twelve located within the borders of the Old town), the Great Saint Martin Church, Cologne City Hall and the remnants of the medieval city gates (Eigelsteintor, Hahnentor and Severinstor).
