Lauterbrunnen. Jungfraujoch Saddle
One of the most striking attractions of the Swiss mountains is situated on the border of Bern and Valais cantons. The maximum height of the Jungfraujoch is 3471 meters above sea level. But it cannot be considered accurate, because due to the melting of the glaciers, the saddle height reduces a few decimeters every year. The sightseeing camera is located only a few tens of meters below (at 3445 meters), at the Jungfraujoch railway station, Europe’s highest railway station.
In front of us are stunning views of the glaciers and the mountains of Jungfraujoch. From the observation platform, Sphinx, you can see the longest glacier in the Alps, the Aletsch. Its length is about twenty-four kilometers. You need a high-speed elevator to get to the observation deck.
This miracle of nature, located between the two higher peaks — one of which (the Wengen Jungfrau) is over four kilometers in height — is visited annually by 700,000 tourists!
