Schwerin. Schweriner See

We can see Schweriner See from the southeastern suburb of Schwerin. This German city is built on the western shore of the lake. First of all, it is famous due to Schwerin Castle, built in the middle of the nineteenth century, on Palace Island between Lake Burg and Schweriner See. In ancient times there was a Slavic fortress, the first mention of which dates back to the last century.

Lake Burg is one of the many small lakes which surround Schweriner See. The length of the second largest lake in northern Germany is almost 25 kilometers and it is 6 kilometers wide. The rich flora and fauna make it a popular holiday destination, as well as the object of various scientific research.

The left and right side of the lake are connected by the three kilometer Paulsdamm, and the federal highway 104. The construction of which was completed in the middle of the nineteenth century and was a powerful impetus for the development of all the settlements around the lake.
