Vadsø. Town Square

A wide-angle camera, in the center of the Norwegian town of Vadsø, is installed on the town hall and shows the main town square. On Christmas Eve, a large tree is installed in the square, a fair is organized and many locals celebrate Christmas and the New Year here.

Festivals like the Varanger Festival in August or the Polar spectacle in October are also held on the Vadsø Square. Contrary to the established tradition, the main square is not in the center of the old town but in its modern part. The first settlement at these places arose on the island of Vadsø, which currently has transport links across the bridge. Today the island is used as the main pier of the town.

Vadsø is known all over the country due to its vast National Park, Varangerhalvøya. Arctic mountain scenery, clean air and interesting flora and fauna attract a huge number of tourists from all over Norway.
