Ribeira Grande. Municipal Chamber of the Town
This is the Municipal Chamber of Ribeira Grande on San Miguel Island. Usually, tourists are shown natural beauty, such as the beaches and mountains of the island, but the second largest town of San Miguel can surprise lovers of architecture.
The first municipality of Ribeira Grande was built here in the beginning of the 16th century, but after a major earthquake, it was completely destroyed. A modern building with an arch appeared here much later, at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, and then was repeatedly reconstructed.
On the screen, we can see the western part of the building and the clock tower over it. In addition to the municipal chamber, guests of the city will certainly like the large Ribeira dos Moinhos park (in the foreground of the image) and the Ribeira Seca church.
