São Miguel Island. Lagoa do Fogo Lake

This webcam shows us the beautiful lake of Lagoa do Fogo, located on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. The name of this lake explains its volcanic origin in a very simple way, while Lagoa do Fogo literally means “Lagoon of fire”.

Lagoa do Fogo is an old crater lake within the borders of the giant stratovolcano. It must have been tremendous (and quite dangerous as well) to see it at the very moment of eruption.

Do not be afraid to visit this beautiful lake in present days. Last eruption of the volcano happened in the far year of 1564, and it must be sleeping deep now.
