São Mateus da Calheta. The Coast

We are in the suburb of Angra do Heroismo. On your screen is a small cape, in the fishing village of San Mateus da Calheta, which is a popular tourist destination on the island of Terceira. Next to the camera is the Hotel Pousada de Juventude da Terceira, in which a small two-room apartment costs only € 35.

The local population is engaged in fishing, and the local port is still one of the main places for unloading and selling fish in the Azores.

Among the attractions of the small village, the local church erected here at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries can be distinguished, as well as Forte Grande de São Mateus da Calheta and Forte do Negrito, which we see on the screen.
