São Roque do Pico. Coast

In front of us is the town of São Roque do Pico, on the west coast of the island of Pico. The camera is installed next to the pier, Cais do Pico, near the ferry station, São Roque, which connects Pico to the neighboring islands of San Jorge and Faial.

The history of the district begins in the middle of the 16th century, when by the order of the Portuguese King Juan III, a village was formed where noble people came for whaling, which was popular at that time. The appearance of the Whaling Museum in San Roque do Pico is connected with this. By the way, on the embankment we see on the screen, is a monument to whalers.

One of the main historical and architectural attractions in San Roque is the monastery of San Pedro de Alcántara. It was built in the middle of the 17th century. Tourists will also be interested in gardens and forests with rare and amazing plants and trees. For those who like swimming on the rocky coast, natural pools with a convenient entrance to the water are equipped.
